This tutorial will show you how to use icon bases.
before you start, you'll need to pick your base. I'm using this one.

Next, pick a picture that you think will match the base. I used the one below.

1. Now that you have your base, copy your image into the document and resize accordingly. (To keep the image propotional, hold down the shift key, or the command key if you're on a mac, while resizing.

2. Now to get rid of the background. This is what you see in most of my icons. Now for this, there are many different methods, but when dealing with icons, I prefer using the pen tool.

3. Zoom in and take the pen tool and select areas. Once you complete a path, right click and find the "make selection" option. You'll see the little ant-like border come up and then you can delete the area like so.


4. Once you finish extracting, you're done ^^ You can try different coloring effects or apply actions to give it some more spice. I added text to match the picture as well and this is my final result. :3
